World Book Day on Thursday 4th March was celebrated across the School with a feast of reading aloud - in lessons, in break times, in classrooms and laboratories and, of course, the library.
Staff were encouraged to start each lesson reading aloud from one of their favourite books, and during break and lunch-times they took turns to read to the pupils assembled in the Frayn Library. Fiction and non-fiction, novels and short stories, classics and less well known works all had an airing as an art that sometimes seems to have been lost - of reading aloud (and of being read to) - was given a much-needed boost. 'Being read to is a rare treat nowadays,' said Librarian Mrs Serjeant, who masterminded the day's events, 'and it was a delight to have so much of it today. I so enjoyed just listening, and the children really appreciated the staff taking the time to read to them.' |
