Active ImageThis year’s House Dance competition was a spectacular and colourful celebration, with an amazingly high standard for a school that does not offer Dance on the curriculum.

The evening opened with a stunning demonstration by one of the judges, Reece Dundridge, currently studying at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance.

The four houses followed, each element, Urban, Musical Theatre and Contemporary, being danced by all four houses in turn in a change to the usual format, which helped to create an altogether more coherent evening and made it easier to compare performances in each category.

Active ImageAs well as Mr Dundridge we were fortunate to be able to welcome back Karolin Czerniak, Head of Dance at Tiffin Boys’ School, and to have on the panel our own Zoe Hamilton, new to KGS this term and a teacher of Dance as well as History.

Active ImageThe judging was clearly no easy matter, but in the end the judges gave the award for the Urban category to Taverner, while the Musical Theatre category was won by Queen’s and the Contemporary category by Walworth.  The final overall placings saw the House Dance Cup going to Queen’s, with Taverner second, Walworth third and Lovekyn fourth.

It was a hugely enjoyable evening, and our thanks go to all the students involved on and off stage, to the excellent judges, to Mr Bell and Molly Hanson-Akins for compering the evening so slickly, to the Tiffin boys who showcased their talents with such verve and skill and to the large and enthusiastic audience, who also played their part.  Well done on and all!
